Wearables, Implantables, ingestibles, invisibles: sensor innovations assisting our health
Smart watches, wearables and other sensors are increasingly adding value to (out)patient monitoring and their deployment has been particularly successful for cardiovascular disease monitoring. For neurological, pulmonary, orthopedic, nephrological, ophtalmological applications, different form factors are needed and examples will be shown. For very long-term monitoring towards prevention or early disease interception, alternatives are needed to ensure patient/user compliance - and we call these devices ‘invisibles’. The comprehensive data from these new devices will enable the creation of human digital twin AI models for personalized risk factor assessment, early diagnostics, and feedback.

The pitching SMEs:
Our mission is to ensure home care for families in the best possible way with digital and technological solutions – because we know: your own home is the place where he feels most comfortable for every person. Thus we combine the benefits of Smart-Home-Care (AAL) technologies, common Smart-Home devices and Smart Sensors with communication and remote control into an integrative, unique, intuitive platform solution - allowing family members to connect and to care for their elderly relatives from distance. As communication and monitoring are key assets in our particular vision of care taking, our team at ELDERTECH believes that projects as the wearIt4Health are a key driver to bring care and technology finally together – and in the end caretakers back into focus.

Demcon provides solutions for a wide range of OEM customers in healthcare, and in addition we are developing our own product line. Both for the own product line as for questions from OEM customers there is a trend from hospital to home care, from standing models to wearable solutions. We have realised awesome innovations for diagnosis and treatment in this area, and I am looking forward to take you with me on our journey and which lessons we have learned. In this pitch I will tell you more about MedRings. This is an Intelligent drug delivery and diagnostics tool for women. The heart of this device is an electromechanical system. The vaginal mucosa has proven to be an excellent place for diagnostics, due to the close vicinity of dense vascularization. First pilots show the electromechanical nature of the product makes it ‘smart’ and provides flexibility in dosage, schedule and timing. The device can be wirelessly adjusted and controlled.

Nomics develops and provides portable polygraphs for the diagnosis of Sleep apnea syndrome and follow-up of CPAP treatment that uses the Jaw Activity (Jawac). The Jawac provides the most accurate solution for assessment of the breathing effort that can be easily placed by the patients themselves. It enables deeper, but simple and accurate Sleep Disordered Breathing testing at home. Sleep analysis is one of many diseases where home testing brings economical and accuracy benefits, and wearable systems are the best solution for achieving it. And as sleep disorders is the cause of many other diseases like hypertension and diabetes, a collaboration with wearIT4health to achieve a global wearable solution would be of the utmost interest.

Achilles supports and co-develop companies who wants to develop wearables and healthcare products with a human-centric focus. We manage and take care of the overall product development that covers product system design, digital design, electronics, mechanical engineering and usability design.
Some of our co-developed wearables already on the market are the Nyxoah sleep apneu implant device and a long term EEG monitoring system from Uneeg medical. We developed a smart glass for healthcare applications with Iristick and we collaborate with Moonbird to develop a stress relaxation device.
We are happy to share our expertise to develop your idea or technology and create a market ready product/service.

We believe that healthcare will shift from a centralised to a decentralised system where patient follow-up outside of the hospital wall will be essential. At Byteflies, we want to play in important role in this shift which is accelerated by the current COVID crisis. We are currently offering our CovidCare@Home solution to hospitals that need help in the acute crisis.

"Up to 1 billion people, nearly one in six of the world’s population, suffer from neurological disorders" (news.un.org, 2007) At epihunter we believe digital technologies can have a massive impact on the lives of people with such condition. We are a Belgian company focused on creating digital solutions that make the condition matter less in daily life while generating real world data for better treatments. In less than 3 years, we have grown a disruptive vision into a first CE class I product for absence epilepsy on the market in Europe and Australia, supported by both b2c and b2b business models. Our first product combines an EEG wearable with smartphone technology and machine learning algorithms to detect, signal, log and video-record silent, difficult to notice epileptic absence seizures in real world and real time. In addition additional smartphone apps provide for automated seizure diaries and a web portal is used by healthcare professionals for better diagnosis and follow-up.
